Conan's axe

By special request of Denise, here's something more explicit than I would post usually. Mainly because that stuff gets stolen even quicker than the tamer paintings and it winds up all over the place. Often on sites that you have to pay for, while I as the artist never see a dime of anything they charge you. That's why posting this type of thing will not easily become a habit of mine.

However, sometimes I can make an exception because than it's not as difficult to keep track of the images. 

Of course I do serious commissions that are much wilder than this one even, but I rarely post them. 

  

The story for this picture?:

Barbaric life is full of surprises. You raid a castle to loot, pillage and rape, but the lady of the house has been lonely for too long and is far from scared of you. Bummer, right? :)

Be careful if you find yourself in this situation...If you drop an axe like that be very very careful to not have your foot under it...You will walk funny for the rest of your life!

I painted a naked guy! :)

Yeah, it doesn't happen much but here's one. Inspired by listening to Molly Hatchet I started this as a regular Barbarian but as the rough sketch of the  loin cloth sort of looked like a dick already, without it having the picture lose power, I stuck with it and decided I'd do the girls (and some guys too) a favor and finish it like that. Doesn't happen often so enjoy, but don't get used to it! :)

I've recently been interviewed by someone who claimed to be researching the art-world and actually seemed to get annoyed by my reasons for not painting naked men. I told this person that when a professional artist paints anything, the result might always generate similar commissions and as time is always a most precious thing and a rare commodity it's wiser to stick with subjects that you actually love spending time on the most. 
I also told the person that it's all too easy to get drawn in to scenes and realms that don't really suit the artist. 
If I would paint naked men on a regular basis, chances are that it generates attention from girls or gay males that like that sort of thing. Just like my scarcely clad or naked women/girls/pin-ups/fantasy girls attract attention and commissions from people that like that specifically. 
Even though I don't mind painting nude men at all, I rather spend my time on my actual passion. 

Also, I find a penis often look a bit silly when soft. And when it's not soft, the picture is considered porn quickly. 
That may be a misperception caused by me liking girls too much and because I could be less than objective when it comes to guys but I don't know. From my perspective the (soft) penis is usually not impressive in a picture, looks too gay, or is rather distracting because of the message it sends. There are no such obvious mood-indicators on women and they look wonderful in whatever scene. 

Having said that, I don't think one should actively avoid inspiration, so when something out of the ordinary presents itself naturally, I'll just give it a go anyway. And I'm most happy with this.
Even though this guy's dick is not erect it's pretty impressive and doesn't take away from the power of the rest of the scene. I hope you agree! :)
